The battle between Odisha and Saurashtra is equally poised at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International stadium. In the Round 2 of Ranji Trophy 2016-17, Saurashtra chose to bowl and skittled Odisha out for 228. However, Sandeep Pattnaik’s spectacular 123 off 213 was a delight to watch. Meanwhile, Dharmendrasingh Jadeja’s four-wicket haul gave Saurashtra a much-needed impetus. All the same, Odisha bowling unit went all guns blazing and reduced their opposition to 12 for 4. A blend of aggression and disciplined bowling was on display in India’s finest domestic league. However, Jaydev Shah’s characteristic 64 and Chirag Jani’s fighting 45 kept the team on course. Eventually, Saurashtra were bundled out for 186, trailing by 42 runs. And just when Odisha were in the driver’s seat Deepak Punia’s stunning five-wicket haul ensured the target is restricted to 212 runs. In the second innings, the middle-order resurgence by Anurag Sarangi and Subhranshu Senapati kept their team in the hunt, taking them to 169. To put things into perspective, the match is still equally poised. With Sagar Jogiyani unbeaten on 42, Saurashtra now are stuttering at 96 for 5, with 116 runs more to win. However, with half the side back in the pavilion, Saurashtra will have to punch well above their weight to reach in the finish line.
