Assam are trailing Karnataka by 197 runs with 9 wickets remaining at the end of Day Four of the Round 4 of the Group B match of the Ranji Trophy 2016-17 which is being played at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai. Assam have put up 48 runs on the board after they lost their first wicket in the form of their opener Rishav Das who had made 16 runs before Shreyas Gopal clean bowled him. They have a big task of defending their fort against a good bowling line up from Karnataka as they have Rahul Hazarika and Gokul Sharma at the crease who have scored 25 and 7 runs respectively.

Initially, Assam chose to bat and an unbeaten century from Amit Verma who scored 166 from 316 deliveries consisting of 23 boundaries and 3 huge sixes helped his team to reach a total of 325 in the first innings. Karnataka responded in a strong manner as they declared their innings on 570 runs for the loss of 98 wickets. Robin Uthappa, Karun Nair and Stuart Binny took their team to a mammoth total. Assam were trailing by 245 runs when they came out to bat in the second innings and the task seemed a big one as they had a disappointing start with the bat in the first innings.

Sreenath Arvind was the best bowler for Karnataka in the first innings as he finished with the figures of 27-9-70 -5. For Assam Arup Das was the best with the ball as his picked up 4 wickets for 86 runs.
