After a long play in the first innings, Tamil Nadu declared their innings at 555 for 7 and Madhya Pradesh have started the innings ending at 261 for 7 on Round 4 of Day 3 of Ranji Trophy 2016-17. Tamil Nadu put up an all-round display with their innings as Kaushik Gandhi put up 157 and N Jagadeeshan securing his century as well to put up mammoth total on 555 on board. Dinesh Karthik was almost racing for his century as well but missed his chance by just five runs. Baba Indrajith put up half-century lower down the order. However, the opening batsmen failed to put up any runs and partnership on the board as Abhinav Mukund as well as Washington Sundar were dismissed for golden duck. Madhya Pradesh tried their best Ashwin Das was the only bowler who got maximum wickets for his side. The second best was Chandrakant Sukare who got two wickets. Finally, Madhya Pradesh got to bat on Day 3 Devendra Bundela, their all time best batsman, missed his century by seven runs. Shubham Sharma was the second highest run-scorer on the side as he secured 83 runs. Right after the wicket of Ankit Dane, Madhya Pradesh declared stumps for the day.

Sundar might not have had a great outing with the bat, he definitely was at his best with the ball and grabbed two wickets. Aswin Crist, T Natarajan and Aushik Srinivas got apiece to keep Madhya Pradesh on toes. Earlier, Madhya Pradesh won the toss and opted to field first. With a huge total on board by Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh are trailing by 294 runs and have just three wickets on hand. Tamil Nadu will aim to bowl out Madhya Pradesh early on Day 4.
