Maharashtra have comprehensively beaten Vidarbha by an innings and 3 runs in Ranji Trophy 2016-17 Round 6, Day Three at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Vidarbha were struggling to save the game to begin with, still needing 132 runs on Day Three to make Maharashtra bat again. They resumed the day on 141 for 1, but from 150 for 1, they were bundled out for just 270. Openers Sanjay Ramaswamy and skipper Faiz Fazal scored fifties, but the middle-order failed once again and Vidarbha collapsed like a pack of cards. However, Shrikant Wagh scored an unbeaten 69, coming in at No. 8, which gave Vidarbha a gimmer of hope of perhaps avoiding an innings defeat, but it wasn t to be. Fasr bowler Anupam Sanklecha finished with figures of 7 for 69 in the second innings to go with his 7 for 25 in the first, to finish the match with 14 wickets to his name. The Vidarbha batsmen had no ansewer to him and saw themselves go down. Vidarbha in the first innings too did not offer much fight. They were bowled out for just 59 as the Maharashtra bowlers led by Sanklecha. With the bat, centuries from Naushad Shaikh and Ankit Bawane ensured Maharashtra put on 332 in their first innings. As it turns out, they do not have to bat again in this match.

With this win Maharashtra have registered their first ever win in this edition of the tournament and leaves Vidarbha searching for their first win. They will surely want to buck up and put on a much better performance in the next round. In this match however, Maharashtra won the toss and decided to bowl first.
