In Ranji Trophy 2016-17, Round 2, Day Four, Tamil Nadu have edged past Railways by 174 runs and in this way added six points to their kitty going forward in their Ranji campaign. Winning the toss, Railways chose to field and had everything going for them as Tami Nadu went off to a precarious start. Tamil Nadu was bowled out for 121 and Railways continued to have a firm grip in the match by taking a 52-run lead in the first innings. However, they should have got a big lead after the way their bowlers bowled but things did not turn out as planned. Tamil Nadu, helped by Dinesh Karthik‘s match changing 163, gave Railways a 401-run target and Railways fell apart like nine pins after a good start. Karthik and Abhinav Mukund started Tamil Nadu’s repair work in fashion. Both went onto score respective hundreds as Tamil Nadu went to add 452 for 8 (declared) as Railways’ bowlers suddenly went out of line and length. Railways, however, began their chase with full confidence as they were 100 for no loss at stumps on Day Three. Come Day Four and Railways again went off colours as their batting order crumbled to 226 and gave a fitting 174-run win to Tamil Nadu. Malolal Rangarajan picked up four wickets while others chipped in to give no chance of a comeback to Railways and help their side to a memorable win.
