Chhatisgarh created history when they won their first-ever Ranji Trophy game in the 2016-17 season against Tripura. Set a target of 13 runs to win, 3.5 overs to win the match with S Gupta and A Khare remaining not-out on 5* & 0* respectively. Chasing only 13 runs Chhattisgarh lost the wicket of Rishabh Tiwari who made 8 runs to the teams success in the second innings. Tiwari’s wicket was nabbed by Rana Datta who was trapped leg-before. For Chhattisgarh A Mandal was the star performing picking 3 wickets for 41 runs, he was helped with Abhuday Singh and P Sinha and S Ruikar who picked 2 wickets apiece. In reply to Tripura’s score Chattisgarh were egged on by Ashutosh Singh struck a fabulous hundred as his team reached a total of 255. Ashutosh also became the first centurion for Chhattisgarh and first in this season of Ranji Trophy. Tripura in their second innings made 149 runs with S Patel making the highest 26 runs, A Mandal made merry with the ball for Chhattisgarh picking 4-wickets for 55 runs, thus ensuring his team needed just 13 runs to win the tie.
