Odisha ended Day One of the Ranji Trophy 2016-17, Round 7 against Karnataka at 42 for 2, after bowling their opponents for just 179 at Palam A Stadium in Delhi. Odisha as a result still trail Karnataka by 137 runs with eight wickets in hand. Odisha skipper Govinda Poddar is batting n 16 and Dhiraj Singh is yet to get off the mark. Odisha have lost their openers Sandeep Pattnaik for 16 and Ranjit Singh for 6. In Karnataka s innings, wicketkeeper CM Gautam top-scored with 54. Fast bowler basant Mohanty was the pick of the bowlers for Odisha with three wickets and part-timer Biplab Samantray chipped in with a couple of victories as well. Odisha s first aim will be to get past Karnataka s first innings total on Day Two. Karnataka on the other hand will be on the lookout for some quick wickets and if possible, restrict Odisha to under 179. Sreenath Aravind and Vinay Kumar have been in excellent form this season so far and will have to be at their beat to ensure Karnataka continue their winning run in the tournament. Odisha still have some good batsmen to follow and will keep Karnataka on their toes throughout.

Odisha had won the toss and elected to bowl first. Karnataka are yet to lose a match in this edition of the tournament. They have won four out of their five matches and sit on top of Group B with 29 points. Odisha too are unbeaten in their five matches, but they have won just one and drawn the remaining matches and hence have just 12 points.
