In their match, Bengal put up a dismal show with the bat after a commendable bowling effort as they play Baroda on Day One of the Round 7 match of Ranji Trophy 2016-17. The match is being played at the Chaudhry Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium, Lahli. This is Bengal’s 400th match and the bowlers made the occasion special having restricted Irfan Pathan-led Baroda at 97 all out in their first innings. But the batsmen failed to perform with the bat and in order ended up handing a 21-run lead to the opponents. Winning the toss, Bengal captain Manoj Tiwari put Baroda to bat first. Ashoke Dinda led the bowling attack for the young guns to get Baroda for 97 runs, letting them play only 30.4 overs. Dinda alone bagged 6 wickets while Mukesh Kumar took 3 and Amit Kuila contributed with one wicket. Opener Aditya Waghmore was the highest run-getter for the side with 17 runs. In reply, Bengal could only put up an even low total. Sudip Chatterjee stood alone at the crease against all odds while wickets kept falling at the other end. He scored 37 runs, which is the highest by any batsman in the side in the innings. Four players, including captain Tiwary departed for a duck as the team got all out for 76 playing only 27.4 overs. Atit Seth was the star for Baroda with the ball as he ran through the Bengal batting, bagging 7 wickets. Babashafi Avejkhan Pathan and Irfan Pathan got a wicket each.

Baroda resumed batting again and lost 3 wickets by the end of the day, scoring 63 runs. Mukesh Kumar bagged 2 wickets in the innings while Amit Kuila got 1. At stumps of Day One, Baroda have a lead of 84 runs. A total of 23 wickets fell on Day One.
