Punjab were placed in a precarious situation as they were placed at 241/6 at stumps on the first day of their Group A Ranji Trophy encounter against Tamil Nadu of Round 7. For Punjab, Gitansh Khera and Sandeep Sharma are the night watchmen were batting on on 22 and 4 respectively. Punjab won the toss and elected to bat first and opener Manan Vohra played well and top-scored for the side with a tenacious knock of 73 runs. Jiwanjot Singh played well but floundered after a good start for 30. Uday Kaul looked good but was unlucky to have been run out on 56. Mandeep Singh didn’t make any impact as he was out for a duck. Vohra played exceptionally well as he smashed 12 boundaries. The opening pair did well to put a 97-runs stand at the top but the middle-order didn’t step up.

Punjab were looking good at one stage but lost their openers quickly, which put them in extreme pressure. Tamil Nadu bowlers did well to scalp wickets at regular intervals and put pressure on the opposition. Krishnamoorthy Vignesh did well to have three wickets to his name. Aswin Crist also had a wicket to his name while Vijay Shankar got the key wicket of Gurkeerat Singh. Punaj need a strong partnership to sail them out of troubled waters and Day 2 will hold massive importance. Tamil Nadu on the other hand will look to chip early wickets in the morning session.
