In a low-scoring encounter of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2016-17, Andhra were struggling at 173 for 6 in their first innings against Kerala. Andhra trail by 46 runs in the first innings as Kerala had scored a paltry 219 in the first innings of their ongoing Group C match of India s premier domestic cricket competition. The game is being played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. Andhra batsman Ricky Bhui was batting on 47 not out, whereas KV Sasikanth was yet to open his account having faced 7 balls so far in his innings. With the bowlers from both the teams dominating, it will be interesting to see if at all Andhra are able to take any sort of lead in their first innings.

Three bowlers from the Kerala team Basil Thampi, Iqbal Abdulla and Rohan Prem grabbed 2 wickets each that hampered the chances of Andhra putting up a strong total in the first innings. Among these three, Prem was the pick among the bowlers as he returned with the figures of 7-1-7-2. Thampi bowled 13 overs, out of which 5 were maiden. He bagged 2 for 22 while Abdulla claimed 2 for 53 off 23 overs.

Replying to Kerala s first innings score of 219, Andhra made a strong start but lost their way in between. Srikar Bharat scored 104-ball 54 with 8 boundaries and 1 six, whereas Prasanth Kumar scored 61 off 192 balls with 7 boundaries and 1 six.

Ricky Bhui was unbeaten on 47 off 120 balls with 7 fours, but as many as 4 batsmen falling in single-digit scores hampered Andhra s chances of a strong first-innings total.
