Assam’s disappointing batting continued on Day Three as they lost wickets quickly on Day Three of Round 7 of the Ranji Trophy 2016-17 against Maharashtra. The match is being played at IIT Chemplast, Chennai. Maharashtra had put up a gigantic 542 in the first innings of the match with centuries from Kedar Jadhav and Chirag Khurana. Chasing it Assam got all out for 256 in the first innings with Rishav Das and Arun Karthick being the performers with the bat. Assam, at the stumps of Day Two, had already lost three of their top-order batsmen, making things worse for the team. They had 132 runs on the board. Though he did not get much support from the other, Das stayed at the crease fighting alone and added 89 runs. Arun Karthick made a crucial contribution of 47 runs. Maharashtra enforced follow on and Assam put up an even disappointing performance. None of the top-order batsmen managed to score a half-century. Kunal Saikia and Arun Karthick are the highest scorers in the innings for their side with 33 runs each. Karthik is unbeaten and will bat with Sarupam Purakayastha on Day Five as Assam have 115 runs on the board.

Anupam Sanklecha has been exceptional with the ball in the match. The bowler bagged 8 wickets in the first innings while so far has 3 wickets in the second innings. Chirag Khurana and Mohsin Sayyad also remained successful with the ball.
