Hyderabad earned 6 points with a 44-run victory against Chhattisgarh in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2016-17 tournament on Thursday. Chhattisgarh bowler Pankaj Rao was adjudged Man of the Match for his 10-wicket haul, at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Valsad, Gujarat. Chasing a modest target of 285 to win, Chhattisgarh were bowled out for mere 241 despite Rao returning with the figures of 16.2-6-44-5 in the first innings after bagging 5 for 89 in the first innings. Hyderabad captain S Badrinath led the way with a splendid first-innings 134 which set the tone for his side in the contest, even though they were bowled out for cheap in their second innings.

In their first innings, Badrinath scored a fine 134 for Hyderabad and Bavanaka Sandeep fell for 96, as they posted a strong total of 351 on the board. In their reply, Chhattisgarh were bowled out for a paltry 188 with Hyderabad bowlers making merry. Chama Milind and Akash Bhandari bagged 3 wickets each, while Mohammad Siraj and Mehdi Hasan claimed 2 wickets each to help Hyderabad take a massive lead of 163 runs in the first innings. For Chhattisgarh it was important to bounce back after conceding a huge first-innings lead, and they did well.

Chhattisgarh bowled Hyderabad out for a paltry 122, with Rao claiming the second five-wicket haul of the game and Abhishek Tamrakar returning with the figures of 10-4-19-4. Chhattisgarh bowlers had given their batsmen an excellent opportunity to make amends and win the game for their side, but they were not up for the challenge. Ravi Kiran bagged 4 wickets to help Hyderabad bowl Chhattisgarh out for 241, and register a crucial 44-run victory at the end.
