In Ranji Trophy 2016-17 Round 8, Chhattisgarh dominated Services to end Day One on a high. Winning the toss, Services chose to bat but failed to get going in their first innings. At stumps, Chhattisgarh were 8 for no loss, trailing Services by 217 runs. Day Two will be essential as a big first innings lead will get Chhattisgarh to a commanding position whereas Services will be required to get regular breakthroughs. Chhattisgarh’s skipper Abhimanyu Chauhan will be expected to lay a solid platform for his batsmen as he is unbeaten at the crease. Ranji Trophy 2016-17 Points Table & team standings

Day One started with Services coming out to bat. Their openers failed to provide a good start to their side as skipper Aanshul Gupta fell for 15. Wicketkeeper-batsman Nakul Verma stayed for long with a fluent 54 but the side needed more from him. Ravi Chauhan, Amit Pachhara and Rahul Singh got going with starts but could not add anything significant.

There was only a lone fifty from the lower-order in form of Vikas Hathwala, but he could not prevent his side from getting dismissed for a paltry score. The stand out bowlers from Chhattisgarh were Sumit Ruikar and Abhimanyu with the former getting a five-for.

Pankaj Rao and Abhuday Kant got a wicket each to send Services packing. The platform has been laid by their bowlers and now it is up to their batsmen to get close to the opposition’s total and get a big lead.

Brief Scores:
