Odisha finished at the score of 311 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 82.1 overs against Maharashtra, on Day One of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2016-17 Round 8, which is being played at the Krishnagiri Stadium, Wayanad. Biplab Samantray top scored for Odisha with 89 runs from 192 balls which consisted of 11 boundaries while Deepak Behera scored 58 from 85 deliveries. Opting to field, Maharashtra pacers were on target right from the beginning as they first dismissed opener Sandip Pattanaik and No. 3 walked in batsman Govinda Poddar in quick succession. Sanklecha dismissed Pattanaik for 4 runs while Poddar could not even open his account and departed on the first ball he faced. Ranjit Singh (26), Saurabh Rawat (16), Abhishek Yadav (32), Subhranshu Senapati (24) all failed to score runs despite getting good starts.

It was Samantray who brought in the stability to the Odisha innings with his resilient knock. When Samantray came in to bat, Odisha were struggling at 116 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. It was Samantray and Behera s partnership of 98 runs for the seventh wicket that lifted their team out of tight spot.

It was towards the end of Day One, that the Maharashtra bowlers bounced back again to remove Samantray and Behera in quick interval. Suryakant Pradhan s (15) wicket on the first ball of the 89th over was followed by umpire s call to end the day s play. Odisha have Basant Mohanty at the crease at 6 not out.
