Himachal batsmen put up a great fightback against Haryana as the two teams play in Round 8 of the Ranji Trophy 2016-17. The match is being played at the Sardar Patel Stadium, Valsad. Earlier, Haryana had put up a good 402 in the first innings and followed up the performance with a good display of bowling, getting Himachal bowled out for 233. Himachal bettered their performance in the following innings, putting up 142 for the loss of only 1 wicket, trailing by 27 runs and keeping the match alive. Himachal had ended Day Two with 101 runs on the board and 7 wickets in hand. Day Three morning belonged majorly to the Haryana bowlers as Mohit Sharma and Sanjay Pahal ran through the Himachal batting, bundling them out for 233.

Despite the odds, the 66-run effort from Sumeet Verma and a 37 from Amit Kumar who batted at No. 8 were commendable. Asked to follow on, Himachal made a comeback with the bat. Openers RI Thakur and Prashant Chopra provided the team with a solid start as they put up 140 runs without losing any wicket. Thakur missed on his half-century by 5 runs, getting bowled off a Pahal delivery. Prashant remained unbeaten at the crease on 89 as Himachal finished day with 142 runs on the board with the loss of 1 wicket.

Pahal remained the most successful bowler for Haryana with a 5-wicket-haul in the first innings. Mohit Sharma bagged 3 wickets while Poonish Mehta got 2 wickets. In the second innings, Pahal was the only successful bowler with the wicket of Thakur.
