Jharkhand were on top as they reached 251 for the loss of four wickets against Assam, on Day One of Round 8 of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2016-17. The match is being played at Dr PVG Raju ACA Sports Complex in Vizianagaram on Tuesday. Jharkhand have been on top ever since the start of the game, as the openers put up a fair show. It was their middle-order batsmen who stole the limelight, with skipper Saurabh Tiwary coming up with a brilliant knock of 88. Earlier, Assam skipper Arun Kartik won the coin toss, and elected to field first. Jharkhand were off to a steady start, losing opener Pratyush Singh for 30 to Krishna Das caught by Dhiraj Goswami. Just 34 runs later, it was his fellow opener Anand Singh, who fell for mere 14 to Abu Nechim, caught by Kunal Saikia. Batsmen Sumit Kumar and Tiwary were going good, before Sumit fell for 30 at the score of 98 to Goswami. It was then at the score of 249, when Tiwary fell for an impressive 88 to Arup Das, after being caught by Pallavkuamr Das. Rahul Shukla was the new man in, who is currently supporting Jaggi. Nechim has been the most economical bowler so far, claiming a wicket for just 28 runs.
