Karnataka gained a healthy first innings lead of 150 runs at stumps on Day Two in Round 9 encounter of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2016-17, against Maharashtra at Mohali. Karnataka finished Day Two at 313 for the loss of 9 wickets and one can expect them to pile more runs to their existing lead with Vinay Kumar and Sreenath Aravind at the crease. Their batsmen played well and contributed substantially on a wicket which was difficult for batting. They got off to a shaky start after losing their first without putting any runs on the board. Anupam Sanklecha drew the first blood for Maharashtra as he got the better of Arjun Hoysala for a duck.

Ravikumar Samarth and Kaunain Abbas played well and weathered the early storm by stitching a 100-run partnership between them. Abbas was dismissed for 41 while Sanklecha once again got the key wicket of Samarth for 64. Pavan Deshpande top-scored with his crucial knock of 70 before Chirag Khurana cleaned him up with a beauty. Stuart Binny got a good start but floundered for 46 while CM Gautam was undone by Pradeep Dadhe for 26. Skipper Vinay Kumar looked in good touch and has played well for his unbeaten 36 so far. Maharashtra bowlers failed to do what Karnataka did well with the ball; they didn t manage to chip wickets at regular intervals and let the partnerships built.
