Mumbai are in a comfortable position having gained first innings lead while Tamil Nadu will need an outright win to go through to the Ranji Trophy 2016-17 final. Both the teams have enjoyed batting at the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) Stadium , Rajkot. And all the innings have been high-scoring. Mumbai had taken a healthy 101-run first innings lead, putting up a 406. Tamil Nadu replied strongly with their performance as they declared their innings with 356 for 6 on the board, in a hope to get all the 10 wickets.

Tamil Nadu batsmen looked extremely comfortable batting on Day Four. Ganga Sridhar Raju and Abhinav Mukund opened the innings and both took the team to a good score with their solid opening stand. Tamil Nadu lost their first wicket for 64 runs as Raju departed for 28. Mukund kept on batting and got a lot of support from Baba Indrajith who came one place up at No. 3. It was a successful step from the team as both the batsmen went on to score their individual centuries. Mukund was dismissed for 122 while Indrajith added 138. A rare incident took place during the Tamil Nadu innings as the team were slapped with a penalty of 5 runs for walking on the restricted area of the pitch. As a result, 5 extra runs were added to the Mumbai score.

Dinesh Karthik also came up the order but could not play a big knock. Tamil Nadu decided to declare with a target of 250 for Mumbai to chase. However, with a first innings lead in hand, Mumbai will go to the final if the match ends in a draw.

The Mumbai bowlers looked quite helpless in front of the Tamil Nadu hammering. Balwinder Singh Sandhu was the bowler, who got the team their first breakthrough and ended with 2 wickets. Vijay Gohil also picked up a couple while Shardul Thakur and Akshay Girap both got 1 wicket each.
