Jalaj Saxena continues to top the bowling charts in Ranji Trophy 2017-18 PTI

Kerala spinners KC Akshaye and Jalaj Saxena claimed 8 wickets between them to bowl out Vidarbha for 246 in the first innings of the third quarter-final of the Ranji Trophy 2017-18 at Lalbhai Contractor Stadium, Surat. Only the final session was possible on Day One. Vidarbha, after electing to bat, had been reduced to 45 for 3 by stumps. Akshaye added 3 wickets to his overnight tally of 2 to register the second five-for of his career. This is the third First-Class game for the 21-year-old left arm spinner.

Saxena continued to add to his tally. He is the highest wicket-taker this season. Vidarbha had a solid 74-run stand for the seventh wicket while the last wicket added 53 to guide them to some respect. Wicketkeeper Akshay Wadkar top-scored with 53.

Kerala batted for 7 overs in the day and they lost the wickets of opener Mohammed Azharuddeen and night-watchman Sandeep Warrier. Vidarbha’s opening bowlers Lalit Yadav and Rajneesh Gurbani took a wicket apiece. Though first-time quarter-finalist Kerala hold the edge, the game hangs in balance at the moment.
