Defending champions Gujarat are already down and out in the quarter-final clash against Bengal. Trailing by 613 runs on Day Four, Parthiv Patel-led side are on the verge of handing over their title in Ranji Trophy 2017-18. In addition, Parthiv has also injured his finger while keeping in a long day in the office for his state side. Writtick Chatterjee’s double-hundred has propelled Bengal to 483 for 4, and will press hard for a massive win on Monday. But the bigger question is will Parthiv come out to bat or negate any further threat prior to India’s South Africa tour? Parthiv has been selected as Wriddhiman Saha’s back-up keeper.

How did it happen?

The injury took place few minutes before the lunck break on Sunday. He fell on the ground after unsuccessfully collecting the ball behind the stumps.

Parthiv left the field right away, and did not return since then. Anuj Rawal replaced him in what proved out to be a forgettable day for the title defenders.

Manprit Juneja says…

The middle order batsman stated, “He got hit twice or thrice on his finger and it was hurting badly. Not sure what the update is on his injury though.”

Gujarat’s head coach Vijay Patel, however, confirmed that Parthiv has suffered a minor injury, and it wouldn’t take too long to recover.
