Group B saw a different story on Day One of Ranji Trophy 2017-18. Opting to bowl, Jammu and Kashmir managed to scalp a mere 4 wickets (of which 3 were taken by Mohammed Mudhasir). Robin Bist s century kept Rajasthan ahead. Opener Dishant Yagnik s wicket almost left Rajasthan swinging at 19 for 1. Since then, Amitkumar Gautam and Bist remained on top. Where Gautam went on to get his fifty, Bist remained unbeaten on 105. After Gautam, Ashok Maneria took over and got his fifty as well. Mahipal Lomror was unable to build on the momentum set by Maneria and Gautam being dismissed for 6. Tanveer-ul-Haq entered in the last hour of the session as Rajasthan ended the day at 249 for 4.

Saurashtra, on the other hand, saw all-round performance from their batting line-up. Their batsmen rose to the occasion. After a 31-run opening stand, opener Kishan Parmar and Cheteshwar Pujara went on to add 35 runs for the second wicket. But it was the middle-order who pushed the runs. Sheldon Jackson and Prerak Mankad s fifties took the side to 271 for 7 at the end of day’s play. Chirag Jani was also handy with his patient knock of 109-ball 45.

Robin Uthappa failed to make an impact with the new team as he was dismissed for 7. Only Haryana s Ashish Hooda managed to stop the Saurashtra rampage with his 4-wicket haul.

Meanwhile, Jharkhand witnessed a mixed performance. Although wickets kept falling, their batsmen came to the fore with some handful knocks. Ishan Kishan top scored with his 100-ball 45. Ashish Kumar, at the lower-order, showed some skills with the bat scoring 24-ball 25. Jharkhand were brought down to 200 for 9, courtesy Jalaj Saxena s 6-for. Apart from Saxena, every Kerala bowler who bowled through the day ended with apiece.
