Karnataka added 170 runs on day three of their Elite A Round 2 Ranji Trophy 2018-19 match against Vidarbha, contributions coming purely from Dega Nischal and wicketkeeper-batsman BR Sharath, who helped themselves to centuries, and were bowled out for 378 in an otherwise pretty ordinary batting display at VCA Stadium in Nagpur on Wednesday.

Resuming at their overnight score of 208/5, Sharath, playing in his maiden Ranji Trophy match, reached his century, but departed soon after by left-arm spinner Aditya Sarwate. Sharath smashed 20 fours in his 161-ball 103. Nischal, who registered his second first-class century in his fifth game, soon followed the other centurion, after Sarwate had him caught by Akshay Wadkar for 113.

Karnatak were 346/7 in the 114th over when Nischal and were skittled out for 378 in 132 overs. Jagadeesha Suchith added just 20 before he was caught by Wadkar off Sanjay Ramaswamy, who sent Abhimanyu Mithun for a duck, two overs later. Sarwate claimed his fifth wicket in Prasidh Kirhsna, who was cleaned up for nought.

In reply, Vidarbha were 72/2, with lead by just one run when stumps were drawn. Left-arm spinner Suchith, who snapped four wickets in the first dig, had Ramaswamy caught behind by Sharath for 13. Captain Faiz Fazal was run out for 14 leaving Wasim Jaffer (21*) and Ganesh Satish (24*) with a lot of work to do on the final day.

Brief scores: Vidarbha 307 & 72/2 lead Karnataka 378 (Dega Nischal 113, BR Sharath 103; Aditya Sarwate 5/91) by one run
