Ranji Trophy: Wasim Jaffer’s 55th hundred drives Vidarbha towards lead

The 55th century of Wasim Jaffer’s first-class career has put Vidarbha in sight of taking a first-innings lead over Gujarat in their seventh round Elite Group A 2018-19 Ranji Trophy game at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur.

From an overnight 263/6, Gujarat added 58 runs to be bowled out for 321 in 108.4 overs, which owed largely to a battling 55 from Karan Patel at No 8. Dhruv Raval added 10 runs to his overnight score before he was dismissed by Lalit Yadav, but Patel helped the score past 300. Aditya Sarwate claimed 4/71 in 28.5 overs.

Vidarbha lost Atharva Taide for 12, followed by an 84-run stand between skipper Faiz Fazal (47) and Jaffer. Joined by Ganesh Satish, Jaffer moved to his century in a stand worth 134 before he was third out minutes before stumps, lbw to SA Desai.

Satish is 45 off 137 deliveries.
