Himachal Pradesh notched their first win of the Ranji Trophy 2018-19 season after a clinical innings and three runs against Andhra on the final day at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Cricket Stadium in Amtar on Monday.

Gnaneswara Rao, who was unbeaten on 89 overnight, reached his century, but was immediately by Mayank Dagar. Rao s dismissal triggered a mid-innings collapse as Andhra, resuming their overnight score at 175/1, with a deficit of 112 runs, soon saw themselves with half their side down with 203 runs on the board.

Ricky Bhui soon followed Rao after he was dismissed for just 1 by pacer Arpit Guleria. Dagar, the left-arm spinner, then returned to claim two quick wickets of KS Bharat (2) and Andhra captain B Sumanth (4).

Andhra soon slumped to 244/8 with offspinner Gurvinder Singh snapping two wickets of Girinath Reddy (3) and Shoaib Mohammed Khan (13). Manish Golamaru, Ayyappa Bandaru and Stephen, the tail-enders all failed to trouble the scorers as Andhra folded for 284, three runs short of Himachal s first-innings total. Jyothi Sai Krishna was stranded on 82 off 171, his innings studded with 11 boundaries and one six.

For Himachal, Dagar and Gurvinder returned with three wickets, while Guleria snapped two.

With their first win and receiving the bonus point, Himachal are on seventh spot, while Andhra are firmly placed at the bottom with three draws and one loss in four matches.
