Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Elite C, Round 4, Day 2: Biplab Samantray, Rajesh Mohanty lead Odisha’s fight

Odisha skipper Biplab Samantray hauled his team to a lead of 89 over Tripura in Cuttack, where at the end of day two of their 2018-19 Ranji Trophy Elite Group C round four match the visiting team was 130/5 with a lead of 40.

From 101/3, Odisha ended on 211 out of which Samantray made 88 while watching as the lower middle order and tail caved in. Abhishek Raut and Rajesh Mohanty departed to Abhijit Sarkar in the 42nd over and six runs later Sujit Lanka became the bowler’s third wicket. Debabrata Pradhan made 7 to help Samantray to his half-century and then Suryakant Pradhan chipped in with 14 in a tenth-wicket stand of 46. Samantray was last out for 88 to give Manisankar Murasingh his third wicket.

Samantray scored 69 of the 110 runs Odisha managed on Thursday.

Udayan Bose then bagged a pair when he was ruled lbw to Basant Mohanty – the second time in the match he fell to the same bowler – as Tripura lost a wicket without a run scored. Three wickets to Rajesh Mohanty heaped on the pressure, and by the close of play Tripura had eked out a lead of 40 with five wickets standing. The skipper Bimal Ghosh made 48 and Smit Patel got 29.
