Elite Group A Day 4

Having been ahead for the better part of the fixture, Chhattisgarh suffered an epic collapse before being rescued Ajay Mandal and Manoj Singh who thwarted a charging Maharashtra attack to secure three points from their round 7, Ranji Trophy Group A clash.

Chasing 175, Swapnil Gugale (3/9) and Samad Fallah (2/26) reduced the hosts to 68/6 in 23.1 overs, giving their team a whiff of an unlikely win. Opener Anuj Tiwary was the first to depart after a 12-ball duck before Fallah got rid captain Harpreet Singh (4) and Abhimanyu Chauhan (2) to leave them struggling at 34/3.

Avnish Dhaliwal (41) and Amandeep Kare steadied the ship with a 31-run partnership before Gugagle’s triple-blow left them reeling. Ajay then struck four fours in an unbeaten 16 off 31 alongside Manoj who scored 7 not out off 34 deliveries to avoid what was hurtling towards an embarrassing defeat.

Earlier, Maharashtra declared at 397/9 thanks to a century from Kedar Jadhav who was out off the first delivery of the day on his overnight score of 103. Half-centuries from captain Ankeet Bawne (57) and Mandar Bhandari (54) pushed them total past the 300-run mark. A handy unbeaten 39 from Satyajeet Bachhav kept the runs flowing before the declaration came when Nikit Dhumal was bowled by Ajay Mandal.

Brief Scores: Chhattisgarh 462 and 91/6 (Avnish Dhaliwal 41; Swapnil Gugale 3/9) drew with Maharashtra 239 and 397
