Rohera eclipsed domestic giant Amol Mazumdar’s score for 260 set on February 12, 1994 in the Ranji Trophy pre-quarters against Haryana. His 267 formed the backbone of Madhya Pradesh’s huge first-innings total of 562 for 4 declared, alongside Yash Dubey’s 139. In response, Hyderabad produced yet another sorry performance with the bat and were bowled out for 185.

The day began with Madhya Pradesh adding 23 more runs to their overnight score of 539 before declaring the innings. Hyderabad, like their performance in the first innings, struggled to get going from ball one and were hurt by lack of partnerships and constant strikes from Avesh. Rohit Rayudu gave Hyderabad something to cheer with a half-century, but with wickets falling at the other end, his contribution only delayed the inevitable.

Avesh went through the middle order in route to his second five-wicket haul of the match, and even though the lower order tried to resist with wicketkeeper Kolla Sumanth and Mehidy Hasan scoring in the 20s, Hyderabad succumbed inside 70 overs to hand Madhya Pradesh their second win of the season.

Brief Scores: Madhya Pradesh 562/4 decl (Ajay Rohera 267*, Yash 139*) beat Hyderabad 185 all out (Rohit Rayudu 72; Avesh Khan 5 for 30) by an innings and 253 runs.
