Bhatia, Saxena score double centuries as Uttarakhand take lead over Meghalaya

Overnight duo of Vineet Saxena and Rajat Bhatia batted through the day to smash double centuries to give group leaders Uttarakhand a first innings lead over Meghayala at their home ground in Dehradun.

At close on day three, Bhatia was unbeaten on 212 (340 balls; 24×4, 2×6) while Saxena was batting on 202 from 506 balls (16×4, 1×6) as Uttarkhand were 491/4, with a lead of 180 runs. Meghalaya toiled throughout the day with Gurinder Singh and Aditya Singhania conceding over 100 runs.

On Friday, Uttarakhand scalped Meghalaya’s last five wicket for just 14 runs early, all of which was claimed by Deepak Dhapola, who finished with 6/52, his third five-wicket haul in four matches, restricting Meghalaya to 311 all out.

In reply, Uttarakhand openers – Karanveer Kaushal, back after missing the previous game owing to a shoulder niggle – and veteran Saxena added 45 runs for the first wicket before Kaushal was removed by Dipu Sangam for 24. Sangam then dealt a big blow by removing previous match’s double centurion Kartik Joshi for 6. Vaibhav Panwar was the next to depart for 1 to Swarajeet Das and with the wicket of Saurabh Rawat for 20 taken by Gurinder, Uttarakhand found themselves in trouble.
