The opening day of Manipur vs Arunachal Pradesh, Ranji Trophy tie was off to a surreal start with both the teams bowled out for cheap totals before things returned to normalcy.

23 wickets fell during on Saturday and at stumps on Day 1 of their Round 7 match of Plate group, Manipur were 192/3 and had taken a lead of 211 but things were starkly different after Arunachal Pradesh won the toss and opted to field in Kolkata.

Manipur’s innings innings lasted 26 overs as they were shot out for 85 runs. Four of their batsmen logged scores in double-digits and none crossed 19. Deendyal took 5/38 while Licha Tehi chipped with 3/36 and Techi Doria claimed two wickets in an over.

Arunachal were poorer than their counterparts. Their reply lasted a mere 23.3 overs as nine of their batsmen recorded scores in single-digit in a a grand total of 66-all out. Kshitiz Sharma (11) and Deendyal (10*) were the only two batsmen to reach double-digits as Thokchom Kishan (5/16) and Bishworjit Konthoujam (4/27) ran through their batting order.

Amidst the mayhem, Manipur had managed to take a first-innings lead of 19 runs.

However, the demons in the pitch seemed to have disappeared in Manipur’s second dig with opener Hrithik Kanojia (79*) and captain Yashpal Singh (51) hitting hafl-centuries.

They were given a bright start by opener Prafullomani Singh who struck six fours in his 14-ball 25 before being bowled. Mayank Raghav lasted 14 deliveries before departing, leaving his team at 56/2.

However, Kanojia and veteran Yashpal took over and added 98 runs for the third wicket to put their team in control by the time the day’s play ended.
