Bihar were bowled out for 150 as Nagaland‘s Rachit Bhatia claimed a maiden five-wicket haul on Day 1 of their Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Plate group, Round 7 clash in Patna.

Nagaland skipper Rongsen Jonathan called correctly at the coin toss and opted to field at the Moin-ul-Haq Stadium. Rajat struck with the fifth delivery of the match when he bowled Bihar opener Mangal Mehrur for 4. Captain Babul Kumar was pinned in front for a duck by Arun leaving the hosts at 9/2 in 3.5 overs.

A brief revoery followed courtesy Indrajit Kumar (25) and Keshav Kumar (21). Abrar Kazi pured cold water over their plans as the removed Indrajit to break the 36-run stand and then Bhatia claimed his second victim in the other set-batsman Keshav.

From thereon, Bihar were fast hurtling towards being skittled for a below 100 total.

Bhatia had claimed four scalps to leave Bihar in tatters at 85/9 when Harsh Singh and Samar Quadri began their resistance. The duo counterattacked and took the score past the 100-run mark. They added 65 runs for the tenth wicket in quick time before Bhatia completed his fifer with the wicket of Quadri on 20. Harsh remained unbeaten on 48, an innings that was laced with seven fours and two sixes.

Like their opponents, Nagaland also lost their opener in the very first over with Sedezhalie Rupero falling to Vivek Kumar on 2. Paras Sehrawat and Hokaito Zhimomi then added 43 runs for the second wicket before Ashutosh Aman had the former hole out on 27.

Zhimomi followed him back to the dressing room soon before KB Pawan retired hurt on 1. With the day coming to a close, Bihar struck through Ashutosh Aman who removed a set Abrar Kazi for 28.

At stumps, Nagaland were 101/4, trailing by 49 runs.
