Resuming their overnight score at 273/4, Karnataka lost overnight centurion Dega Nischal, who departed for 107 without adding any runs on the day after he was dismissed by Pankaj Rao, who added two more wickets to finish the innings at 7/82. Rao, playing in his 21st first-class match, improved on his previous best of 5/44.
Karnataka managed to reach the 400-run mark courtesy captain Vinay Kumar, who was left stranded on 90. Kumar batted with the tail and smashed nine boundaries and two sixes during his 142-ball innings.
In reply, Chhattisgarh lost openers Avnish Singh (16) and AG Tiwary (4) inside the first seven overs. Both departed to Abhimanyu Mithun, who also snapped the wicket of Manoj Singh (4). At stumps Amandeep Khare and captain Harpreet Singh Bhatia were batting on 43 and 53 respectively.
