Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Round 8, Elite B, Day 2: Delhi pocket first-innings lead versus Bengal

In a gripping battle at the Eden Gardens on Monday, Delhi edged Bengal to grab a slender 20-run first-innings lead on day two of their Ranji Trophy 2018-19 Elite B match.

After bowling out Bengal for 220 in their first innings with Kulwant Khejroliya and Subodh Bhati picking up three wickets, Delhi were 41/2 when stumps were drawn.

Resuming their start of the innings after bowling out Delhi for 240 on the opening day, Bengal lost opener Abhishek Kumar Raman for 11 to Khejroliya. Abhimanyu Easwaran and Chatterjee then stitched 63 runs for the second wicket before Easwaran was dismissed by Shivank Vashisth for 40.

Manoj Tiwary was cleaned up by Khejroliya seven overs later as Bengal suffered a middle order collapse. They lost their next five wickets in 20 overs. With no support from the other end, Chatterjee fell to Bhati after adding 56 to the tally, but Bengal fell 20 runs short of Delhi’s first-innings total.

In reply, Ashok Dinda, who snapped four wickets on the opening day, picked up two, to leave Delhi at 41/2 at stumps, ahead by 61 runs. Kunal Chandela and captain Nitish Rana were batting on 15 and 5 respectively.
