Rajasthan crawled to 272 for one at lunch on the second day of the Ranji Trophy final against Tamil Nadu at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday.

The defending champions lost only one wicket in the opening session of the day in form of Aakash Chopra, who missed out on a century by six runs as he was dismissed for 94.

Chopra s marathon innings came to an end when he was trapped in front of the wickets by Aushik Srinivas. His 94 came off 307 balls, hitting 10 boundaries.

Chopra added 236 runs for the first wicket with Vineet Saxena, who was batting on an unbeaten 142 at lunch.

Saxena added just 22 runs to his unbeaten knock in the first session, and was accompanied by Hrishikesh Kanitkar, who is batting on 21

Earlier on the opening day, At stumps, Rajasthan opting to bat, were 221 for no loss with Saxena batting on 120 in company of Chopra who scored a dogged 86.

Interestingly, it was same opening pair that has frustrated Tamil Nadu during the semi-finals in Jaipur last year when they added 181 for the first wicket. They have already bettered their earlier effort.

With 22-yard at Chepauk offering nothing much for the bowlers, Rajasthan who boasts of domestic heavyweights like Hrishikesh Kanitkar, Rashmi Ranjan Parida and Robin Bist would certainly look to put up a total in excess of 550.

The gameplan for the past two seasons have been simple for both Saxena and Chopra. They have a risk-free approach towards batting. Both showed enormous patience as they waited for the loose deliveries and never really played any shots that involved risk.

Brief Scores: Rajasthan 272 for 1 (Vineet Saxena 142*, Aakash Chopra 94, Hrishikesh Kanitkar 21*; Aushik Srinivas 1 for 72) vs Tamil Nadu
