Ranji Trophy: GCA announces INR 3 crores to Gujarat

Vadodara: The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) has announced Rs 3 crore as incentive for victorious Gujarat Ranji team which won the prestigious domestic tournament for the first time this season. Led from the front by Parthiv Patel, Gujarat defeated 41-time champions Mumbai by five wickets to lift their maiden Ranji Trophy title in Indore on Saturday. Talking to PTI, GCA vice-president Parimal Nathwani said: “This is in addition to Rs 2crore from BCCI.” Gujarat had once before reached the final in 1950-51, but were defeated by Holkar team at Indore. Nathwani describing the triumph as a historic win. “Gujarat team led by Patel created history by winning the Ranji trophy for the first time in last 66 years,” he said.

GCA president Amit Shah, whi is also the BJP resident, congratulated Gujarat team for their historic achievement. Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and BJP national president Amit Shah today congratulated the Gujarat cricket team for its maiden Ranji Trophy triumph. “Heartiest congratulations to Gujarat cricket team for winning Ranji trophy final. @parthiv9 has been amazing in both the innings. Proud,” Rupani tweeted. Shah, who is also the president of Gujarat Cricket Association, congratulated the team and heaped praised on skipper Parthiv Patel for his “great knock” of 143 runs, which guided Gujarat to register a victory against Mumbai at the Holkar stadium in Indore.

 

“Superb team performance, historic win. Congratulations to Gujarat cricket team on winning @Ranjittrophyfinal. Great knock by skipper @parthiv9,” Shah said on Twitter. Shah attributed the win to the state’s “constant efforts” to take the game to great heights through “right talent identification and talent cultivation. This is an important day in the history of Gujarat cricket. This is the first time the state (Gujarat) has become a champion.
