Ranji Trophy: Umesh, Sarwate five-wicket hauls seal Vidarbha’s semifinal berth

Uttarakhand’s final five wickets fell for just seven runs with Umesh Yadav and Aditya Sarwate registering five-wicket hauls.

Defending champions Vidarbha defeated Uttarakhand by an innings and 115 runs to seal a spot in the semi-finals of the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy. Starting the final day needing five wickets for victory, Vidarbha needed just eight overs to wind things up for Uttarakhand, who were unbeaten till this point in the series.

Uttarakhand’s final five wickets fell for just seven runs with Umesh Yadav and Aditya Sarwate registering five-wicket hauls and taking Vidarbha to their second straight semi-final.

Sarwate was the first to strike for Vidarbha, removing Manolan Rangarajan with Uttarakhand still 120 runs away from victory. Umesh, who had picked three wickets earlier, added a fourth by dismissing Saurabh Rawat for a 21-ball duck.

The next three wickets – Sunny Rana, Deepak Dhapola and Dhanraj Sharma – in a space of a run each. Sarwate cleaned up Sharma to bowl Uttarakhand out for 159 and give Vidarbha a huge innings victory.

Brief Scores: Vidarbha 629 all out beat Uttarakhand 355 and 159 by an innings and 115 runs.
