Ravi Shahstri suggested that India’s limited-overs skipper MS Dhoni is a champion player as he said, “You never mess around with class. You never mess around with class, proven talent and a player who has done more in that format of the game than anybody else. When it comes to winning titles, there’s no one who’s won more than him. So, let’s not talk about a champion who can wake up any time!” However the Indian team’s director when asked if Virat Kohli should be handed the captaincy even in the shorter format of the game, he did not deny it. According to Times of India, being as diplomatic as Shahstri could be, he said, “Let the selectors do their job. My job is to look after the way the team plays. I’m absolutely proud of the way the guys played. Virat was a young kid who took over the reins a year ago. Today, he’s shown that he’s a leader.”

Virat has been seen showing full faith in his bowlers. In a recent interview the Indian Test captain also admitted it that he believes bowlers play the major role in a side winning a Test. When asked Shastri if Virat is on his way becoming a bowler’s captain, he said, “He’s on the move, in your face, plays to win, and is very positive. That kind of personality rubs off on other individuals as well.” READ: Ravi Shastri excited about prospect of young India taking on “best Test side in the world”

Meanwhile, the former Indian skipper is very delighted with India’s recent thumping win against South Africa in the 4-match Test series at home. Also, he went on to say that he wasn’t surprised with the way the top-ranked Test side performed. “I’m not surprised by that. I don’t go down that route. I was proud of the way our guys played. I give full credit to them for making South Africa play the way they did,” he added.
