Ravichandran Ashwin denies adding ‘flipper’ to his bowling

India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Tuesday clarified that he is not working on new deliveries to add to his arsenal, and instead, is working hard to get the basics right during the off-season.
“Just reading articles around, I get a feeling that ppl are quoting me as though I have invented something. I am sorry I am just working on my bowling. Yes I am seeing if I can add variety but definitely no flipper or anything, just working on my basics for now. PERIOD,” Ashwin wrote on the microblogging website Twitter. (sic)
A few days ago a national daily reported that the 26-year-old is working on special delivery named ‘flipper’.
“I am developing a flipper that pitches just short of a length and skids on,” Ashwin told The Hindu.
“I am also trying to get the carrom ball that spins into the right-hander. This will add a new dimension to my bowling. I have the arm-ball, the carrom ball, and the under-cutter. The carom ball drifts and spins away from the right-hander while the under-cutter cuts slightly away from the batsman.”
“The top-spinner is a pretty natural delivery for me because of over-spin. The arm-ball is an important delivery while bowling at the left-handers,” he added.
