Ravichandran Ashwin has been achieving new highs of late, be it being drafted in Worcestershire for County Championship or launching his own cricket academy in Dubai. Yes, budding cricketers from UAE can now pick Ashwin’s brains through this academy. Ashwin’s Chennai-based GenNext Cricket Academy and Kings will be providing a new coaching program specially designed by the spinner himself. This will help the youngsters to improve their game to the next level. Ashwin, who was recently part of the India tour of Sri Lanka, ended up as highest wicket-taker for the side with tally of 18 wickets.
Although he is not part of the limited-overs side, Ashwin will be seen in whites again and this time for Worcestershire. His teammate Ravindra Jadeja’s selection in one of the county teams is yet to be announced. Meanwhile, enlightening more on his cricket academy, Ashwin told sports360.com, “This partnership is definitely going to contribute to continuous improvement in coaching techniques with a flavour of innovation and drive to excel. This would open the door for the budding youngsters to be inspired by the current playing cricketers apart from learning the tricks of the trade and lessons the hard way.” The launch will take place later this month and the spinner is expected to be present for the inauguration as well to pass on his knowledge to the budding cricketers there. Ashwin has appointed former cricketer and Kenya Cricket CEO, Kobus Oliver as the director of the academy.
On being appointed as the director, Kobus added, “The GenNext Kings’ Cricket Academy will be the first and only cricket academy that is an extension of a school cricket programme. Ashwin and his coaching team has designed his own training programmes which will be taught at the academy. I’m confident this will set the benchmark for sports academies and schools in the region.”
Alan Williamson, director of education at Kings school, was equally excited on Ashwin’s new venture, “We are delighted to offer budding cricketers, both Kings’ students and beyond, the opportunity to make greater use of our outstanding coaching team, facilities and access to what is pegged to be the top cricketing academy in the UAE.”
