Ravindra Jadeja in action during the third Test at Mohali IANS

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja fell short of his maiden Test century on Monday, against England on the third day of the third Test at Mohali. Jadeja, who has always bemused critics and fans for not succeeding in Tests after hitting three triple centuries in First-Class cricket, finally answered the questions with perhaps his best innings ever in international cricket. Jadeja faced 171 balls, and struck 10 boundaries and a six to get agonisingly close to the three figure-run mark in Test cricket for the first time. Jadeja was dismissed for 90 runs by Adil Rashid, who bagged his fourth wicket in the innings. Meanwhile, India were 381 for 8 after 123.1 overs, having extended their lead in the first innings to 98 runs. England were bowled out for a paltry 283 earlier in the match. Jadeja showcased sheer class and determination to notch up his first-ever century in Tests, which helped India crush England further in the contest. The left-handed batsman has been involved in two terrific partnerships already, which has changed the course of the match. After India suffered a batting collapse on the second day, and lost Virat Kohli when they were still behind by more than 70 runs, Jadeja added 97 runs for the seventh wicket with Ravichandran Ashwin to revive India from a precarious position. On the third day, when India lost Ashwin early in the first session, Jadeja teamed up with Jayant Yadav to add another 80 runs. His partnership helped India take their lead in the first innings close to 100 runs, but there is no denying in the fact that Jadeja squandered a golden opportunity to score his maiden century.
