David Warner‘s exclusion form Indian Premier League 2018 has opened the doors for many. According to reports, Sunrises Hyderabad had approached Kusal Perera to serve as a replacement for Warner. Kusal was sensational in Nidahas Trophy 2018 as he performed with great consistency and responsibility in the whole series.

However, Kusal has opted to play Sri Lanka’s domestic cricket over IPL to gain a spot in the Test side. He played his last Test in 2016 and now carrying a good form the decision seems fair from his side.

“Yes, we have approached Kusal Perera as a replacement for Warner. Like Warner, he is also a devastating batsman and our analyst informed us that he has been in tremendous form in last few months. Though nothing has finalised as yet, we are hopeful Perera will join our squad,” a Sunrisers Hyderabad official had told Cricket Age.

Warner’s absence in the squad had kept the position of an opening batsman and captain vacant. However, Kane Williamson was appointed the captain of SRH on Thursday. With only one spot to fill the remaining options for SRH could be Martin Guptill, Alex Hales, Shaun Marsh and Lendl Simmons.
