Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting believes that axed England batsman Kevin Pietersen did not have the biggest ego of all English cricketers during his playing career.

Pietersen was sacked by the England and Wales Cricket Board ( ECB) last year in February following England’s Ashes whitewash by Australia last summer and the axed batsman has taken the world media by storm since.

Pietersen was sacked under the  Alastair Cook regime, although it is Ironic that it was Cook who wanted Pietersen in the side on the 2012 tour of India after Andrew Strauss retired from Test cricket. Incidentally, Cook has now been sacked as England’s One-Day International captain and hasn’t found a place in the World Cup squad either.

Pietersen denied that he was an arrogant player, saying that he saw himself as confident in his ability and his training, News.com.au reported. Ponting also backed Pietersen’s words saying that he wouldn’t rank the sacked England batsman in the top four.

Ponting nominated Graeme Swann, a certain right-arm off-spinner, as the most arrogant, followed by a man who fields behind the stumps wearing a bit of protection, wicketkeeper Matt Prior and a couple of fast bowlers Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad.
