Rishabh Pant is in line for his one-day international debut after the wicketkeeper batsmen was included in Indiaâs 12-member team on Saturday for the first ODI against West Indies on Sunday. Pant, 20, made his international debut during a T20 against England in early 2017 and received his Test cap earlier this year during Indiaâs tour of England in September.
The team sheet of 12, tweeted by the BCCI, includes six bowlers â three pacers in Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami and Khaleel Ahmed and three spinners in Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav. Hence, it is likely that India would go in with five bowlers, meaning Pant may indeed become the 224th Indian cricketer to play ODI cricket. The toss up is likely to be between Shami and Khaleel.
Pant also hinted via twitter that is he ready to take on West Indies in Guwahati tomorrow. If Pant received his ODI cap, he will become the fourth Indian player after Siddharth Kaul, Khaleel and Deepak Chahar to make ODI debut this year. Fast bowler Kaul played his maiden one-day game during the three-match series against England in July, while Khaleel and Chahar played in the Asia Cup that India won. However, as per the team sheet, MS Dhoni will be the one keeping wickets.
