India had been taken to a good start by the opening pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma in the first Twenty20 International (T20I) at Adelaide, but Rohit after offering a few chances has been dismissed by Shane Watson in first ball of the fifth over for a 20-ball 31. They had added 40 runs in the first four overs without loss of wicket. The Australian bowlers had the pace early on but were unable to hit the right lines and lengths consistently enough. Tait attempted to hurry the batsmen with his extra pace but his accuracy was not up to the mark. He offered some width to the batsmen on a few instances and the batsmen were quick to cash in on the errors. FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: India vs Australia 2015-16, 1st T20I at Adelaide
Rohit looked fluent in his shot-making but did edge a few. He showed the willingness to attack anything that could be scored off. He had one hook shot that went for six but were it for better fielding he could have been out. In the fourth over he offered another chance at third man after top edging a heave but it was messed by Cameron Boyce. Dhawan has not received too much strike early on but has looked pretty good in the few balls he has faced.
Earlier, Australia won the toss and skipper Aaron Finch elected to bowl first. Indian skipper MS Dhoni said he would have liked to bowl first as well since India had done well chasing the the preceding One-Day International (ODI) series. India gave Hardik Pandya the maiden international cap, while Australia did the same with Travis Head. Both teams also recalled certain senior players such as Yuvraj Singh for India and ‘the wild thing’ Shaun Tait for Australia. Tait provides the Australian attack that pace factor which was absent in their attack in the ODI series. The Adelaide pitch as usual seems to be a true batting surface and one can expect a lot of runs.
