India skipper Rohit Sharma made a return to the Ranji Trophy with Mumbai’s clash against Jammu and Kashmir which commenced from January 23. The 37-year-old made a return to the domestic tournament after BCCI had recently issued guidelines stating that players will have to feature in domestic cricket when they aren’t on national duty.

However, despite the anticipation, Rohit’s return to the tournament wasn’t memorable at all as he was only able to score a total of 31 runs in the 2 innings combined. On top of this, Mumbai was handed a comprehensive 5-wicket defeat by the visitors as well.

Now, according to a report by The Times of India, Rohit along with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer will miss Mumbai’s final group-stage clash against Meghalaya starting from Thursday. The report further stated that the trio are supposed to join the Indian team’s camp on February 2 ahead of the ODI series against England which is set to commence from February 6.

“Rohit, Jaiswal and Iyer are all likely to attend the BCCI’s Naman Annual awards in Mumbai on February 1. Next day (February 2), they are supposed to report for a short camp to Nagpur before the three-match ODI series against England,” the report quoted a source as saying.

The defeat against Jammu and Kashmir landed a major blow to Mumbai’s hopes of making it to the quarter-finals of the domestic tournament. The defending champions will now not only have to beat Meghalaya, but will also have to hope for other results to go their way.
