India skipper Rohit Sharma played a pivotal knock of 76 in the final of 2025 ICC Champions Trophy against New Zealand to lead the Men in Blue to their second ICC title in less than a year.

Ahead of the final, there were a lot of speculations regarding Rohit’s future with the Indian team. Many reports stated that the India skipper will retire from the one-day format, however the 37-year-old shut down all such rumours following the conclusion of the match.

“I am not going to retire from this format. Just to make sure no rumours are spread moving forward. Koi future plan hai nahi, jo chal raha hai chalega (there is no future plan, whatever is going on will continue as it is),” Rohit said after the match.

“Right now, I am taking things as they come. It wouldn’t be fair for me to think too far ahead. At this moment, my focus is on playing well and maintaining the right mindset. I don’t want to draw any lines and say whether I will or won’t play in the 2027 World Cup,” Rohit said a day after on JioHotstar.

“There’s no point in making such statements right now. Realistically, I have always taken my career one step at a time,” Rohit added.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, Rohit already has plans to extend his career till the 2027 ODI World Cup.

“If things go according to plan, he might exit international cricket after the quadrennial ICC event, to be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia,” the report stated.

The India skipper will be turning 38 in two months time and will be 40 by the time the World Cup begins, he will be 40.
