During the second One-Day International (ODI) of Kitply Cup in 2008 against Pakistan, Rohit Sharma took a sensational catch at silly point to send the young and talented Pakistani opener Salman Butt back to the pavilion.

Batting first, India put a mammoth score of 330. The Pakistani openers had to provide a solid start for the middle order to capitalise. But that wasn’t to be.  Butt got a reprieve off the previous delivery as he slashed a swinging delivery from Praveen Kumar. The ball went straight to Ishant Sharma at third-man, which he misjudged and allowed the ball spill over the fence for a six.

Butt decided to make the most of it and went aggressive. He drove at a good length out-swinging delivery but didn’t get the amount of power or the elevation he would have expected. The ball rocketed towards cover-point where Rohit dived to his left and pouched the ball. It was one of the best catches taken in that tournament.

Dhoni ensured that the game did not drift away from his grasp and India won the match by a convincing margin of 140 runs against their arch-rivals. Sehwag emerged as the top run scorer with 89 runs, Rohit’s catch was one of the highlights of the match.
