Ruturaj Gaikwad becomes the second-fastest Indian to score an ODI century against South Africa after Yusuf Pathan
Ruturaj Gaikwad scored his maiden ODI century in the second match against South Africa, marking a spectacular comeback. This is the first century of his ODI career. Gaikwad was included in the Indian team after Shubman Gill’s injury. Returning to ODI cricket after nearly 23 months, he made a strong statement with a brilliant century.
Gaikwad scored 105 runs off 83 balls, hitting 12 fours and two sixes. He had managed only eight runs in the first ODI against South Africa, but bounced back in style in the second match, answering his critics with a match-defining century.
Second-fastest ODI century by an Indian against South Africa
Ruturaj Gaikwad is now the second Indian to score the fastest ODI century against South Africa, reaching the milestone in 77 balls. Yusuf Pathan holds the record, having scored a century in 68 balls in Centurion in 2011.
Record Partnership with Virat Kohli
Gaikwad shared a 195-run partnership with Virat Kohli (102), the highest partnership for any wicket in an ODI between India and South Africa. The previous record was a 194-run stand between Sachin Tendulkar and Dinesh Karthik in Gwalior in 2010.
Virat Kohliâs bat is doing the talking â and how powerfully. The Indian teamâs star batsman scored a century in the second ODI against South Africa. Kohli brought up his 53rd ODI hundred at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium in Raipur, reaching the milestone in 90 balls. This was also the Kohliâs 84th international century of his career.
Kohli is returning to international cricket after nearly four months. He last played a three-match ODI series in Australia, where he failed to open his account in the first two games but scored 74 runs in the third ODI. He has carried that form into this series.
