Ryan Harris has taken on a new role as he would join as a commentator with the Wide World of Sports for Australia’s regional One-Day tournament. Harris has had injury problems and thus hasn’t been able to play a lot of cricket off-late. He was recently appointed a mentor with the Brisbane Heat team in the Big Bash League (BBL). In fact, he will work with Queensland Cricket in that role

Speaking to Cricket Australia’s official website, Brad McNamara an Executive Producer with Channel Nine said, “We like to use current players where possible. It’s a good opportunity to let the viewers inside their thought process; how they view the game, what they think. Ryan’s shown a bit of interest in how the broadcast works and how everything is put together, which is fantastic, so we see it as a great chance to get him on board. He’s also a really likeable character, and he’s one of those blokes who the Australian public would love to have a beer with. Whenever we can get guys like that involved in our coverage, it is win-win for everyone.”

Harris has played 24 Tests and 21 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) for Australia so far. Harris had a knee surgery after the tour to South Africa earlier this year and has then gone on to become a part of the Australia A coaching staff as well. He failed to recover for Australia’s tour to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to play Pakistan.
