Rutherford leads Pretoria Capitals batting effort

Sherfane Rutherford thrilled the home crowd with an aggressive innings of 53 off 27 balls, hitting three fours and five sixes. His maiden SA20 half-century powered Pretoria Capitals to a competitive total of 185/6.

Gideon Peters stars with the ball

Following the strong batting effort, Gideon Peters starred with the ball. He ripped through MI Cape Town’s middle order, including a double-wicket maiden over, as the defending champions were restricted to 132/7. Peters finished with figures of 3/32.

Dewald Brevis produces stunning fielding display

Peters was well supported by outstanding fielding from Dewald Brevis. One of his catches saw him sprint around the boundary before grabbing the ball just in front of the grass banks. Two balls later, he produced another stunning full-stretch dive to take a sensational catch inches above the ground.

MI Cape Town suffer collapse after solid start

MI Cape Town were cruising early in their chase but suffered a dramatic collapse. They lost four wickets for just 11 runs, sliding from 46/2 to 55/6. From there, they were unable to recover.

Reeza Hendricks Fights a Lone Battle

Reeza Hendricks was the lone bright spot for MI Cape Town, scoring 68 not out from 50 balls, including four fours and four sixes. However, he received little support from the rest of the batting lineup.

Rutherford shifts momentum late in the innings

Earlier in the match, MI Cape Town had controlled the first part of the match before Rutherford arrived at the crease with Pretoria Capitals struggling at 89/4 with 7.1 overs left. Rutherford’s aggressive batting completely shifted the momentum.

When Rutherford was dismissed off the final ball of the innings, caught at long-on, the West Indies power-hitter had already caused major damage to the MI Cape Town bowlers.

Costly fielding and bowling errors

MI Cape Town struggled with both death bowling and catching during this phase. Rutherford and Dewald Brevis were both dropped off consecutive deliveries bowled by Corbin Bosch, mistakes that proved very expensive.

Brevis and Rutherford punish MI Cape Town attack

The pair added 69 runs off just 34 balls for the fifth wicket. Brevis smashed consecutive sixes off Kagiso Rabada – first with a no-look shot over fine leg, followed by a one-handed hit over the cover boundary.

Rutherford also targeted Trent Boult, who overpitched three times in one over. That over went for 16 runs, including two sixes and a boundary.

Pretoria Capitals look ahead with confidence

With this commanding win, Pretoria Capitals head into their final two matches full of confidence. They will face Paarl Royals at home before taking on Joburg Super Kings away at the Wanderers.
