India legend Sachin Tendulkar met boxer Sarita Devi and presented her with an autographed t-shirt. He wrote a message that said ” Enjoy the game and always give your best”. Sarita Devi had won the bronze medal in the Asian Games held in Incheon, South Korea. But she refused to accept the medal as she though she claims she was cheated in the semi-finals.

The International Boxing Association (AIBA)had imposed a one-year ban on  Sarita Devi for indiscipline. The Delhi High Court decided not to interfere in this matter and wanted the matter to be resolved among the concerned parties. The central government had earlier told the court that the ministry had written to AIBA and requested it to take a lenient view considering her humble background and controversy-free image to spare her a career-ending ban.

Sarita Devi then accepted her bronze medal but is not allowed to participate in any competition until further notice. Sarita also won the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2009.
